I remember as a child my Mum (in Australia) popping a teaspoon with sugar and I believe kerosene in my mouth when I was clogged up feeling terrible with some heavy bronchial infection. Her mother had done the same for her kids...the conviction was that it helped "cut" the phlegm and clear you out. We weren't sickly for the most part, so It was not a common occurrence, but I remember it.

What's funny about this is that my great grandfather used to use turpentine for ALL kinds of issues "back in the day"!

Can I ask a couple questions, if you remember? I'm curious if he got, "sick"? The reason I ask, is I tried a detox remedy and got really sick, like, should have gone to the hospital sick. Let's say I got a black eye from losing consciousness but didn't want to make a fool of myself. I've had a jar of pure gum spirits since but have been to scare to try it.

I think I heard that it helps with weight loss also.
